A Walk Through The Rubber Plantations
From 29 August and run until 30 September 2009
Cambodian photographer Vandy Rattana spent a month roaming the most famous rubber producing area: Kompong Cham province – which was the home of, allegedly, the best quality of rubber in the world. Day after day, Rattana has followed the workers from small rubber plantations, witnessing and documenting their latex collection. Night after night, too – when rubber trees produce more sap to be collected by early rising workers.
So, with Vandy Rattana, let’s go watch, smell and hear the world of rubber plantations…

From December 2007 to January 2008
I am working for Domrei Consulting and Research as anthropologist consultant. The work is located in the urban and peri urban area of Phnom Penh. It is analysing relocated families’ intergration at the new site, in the new community. Interviewing social workers and field workers is certainly an inspiring lesson. Ke Bopha, my research assistant is simply brilliant – quick learner, smart and helpfull. It is so nice to be well assisted, thank you Bopha.

There is a time for every thing, a time to nap in a hammock under a mango tree, a time to smell the scent of a flower from a distance, and a time to be called Dr. Saphan.

For a very long time the hope seems so far away. Somehow I never wished really to end the journey of learning, being a student. There is something about being a PhD candidate, a certain mood for roaming in the realm of knowledge. Some labeled me as a lady of leisure. And in it I found a certain poetry for it reminded of a time where learning was a leisure…
Be ware of Dr. Saphan’s return with new and exciting projects on the cultural, educational and artistic fields! Friends, nothing have changed. Just three little consonants at the end of my name PhD, so many years of a lifetime for three little consonants that can be resumed as Permanent Head Damaged!
