I could never thank enough the US embassy in Phnom Penh, especially her Excellency Carol Rodley for inviting me to return to work and exhibit in my hometown. Just like a beautiful dream that I wish to never end, this short clip amazingly filmed by John Pirozzi and wonderfully edited by Thavary Krouch who brought out the greatest moment when the kids touched the artwork as if its creativity will pass onto them by doing so. The workshop in Battambang was overwhelmingly a success. All the students claimed it was a very insightful experience into their mothers’ life and 3 students said it was life changing in their relationship with their mother. With all those feeling we made an installation piece together.

After the Black Is Black opening, Saphan was counting her blessings. It was such a vibrant night with so many Cambodian youth devouring every details of each art piece. Everything was analyzed under their sharp eyes. Saphan was able to do a press conference in Khmer with local journalists. So grateful to the US embassy team and Bophana staffs to made this event a success.

MAY 23-24 WORKSHOP: ART IS LONG, LIFE IS SHORT IN CAMBODIA
I have been invited by the US embassy to do a workshop at Phare Selpak art school in Battambang, Cambodia.

Phare Selpak is a wonderful school helping street kids to find a passion in the arts. They are most known for the circus school which had toured in Europe. They also have classical dance and music training as well as visual art school. Unfortunately the art school does not have much support nor help. Yet many of the new emerging young artists today come from that school.

Thank you to all the backers from Kickstarters.

MAY 7 Opening of Sammaki a new gallery, studio and artist space in Battambang

September 21 to October 10 at Meta House, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

There are 9 Artists in this group, 9 faces, all producing different projects on different themes, but all this work comes from the same place, the internal realms of shadow, that rarely, if ever get exposed to the light. These Artists have searched their souls and made what they found into Art…I hope to see you there and that you enjoy this exhibition. – Darren Swallow

The time has come to finish our documentary film: Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten: Cambodia’s Lost Rock And Roll. Our goal is to finish the film this fall. Because so much visual material was destroyed by the Khmer Rouge we are working extra hard in creating ways to illustrate this incredible music.

The singer Ros Serey Sothea began as a poor farm girl from the countryside. Because of her amazing voice she soon found herself to be the biggest female singing star in the country. Unfortunately she didn’t survive the Khmer Rouge era. No footage of her performing is known to have survived either. We would like to make an animated sequence of Ros Serey Sothea performing. It would help bring her back to life on screen.

In order to meet this goal we need your support. We are excited to announce an online fundraiser via Kickstarter.com.
