Presentation
A group of young artists from multiple medium (photography, painting and sculpture) met at the art space. They have created a group independent from any affiliation to other art center in Cambodia. Young and dynamic, they have a different vision of art and being an artist. Hence the designation of Stiev Selapak | Art Rebels. This is a local initiated art association.
This association of artists are seeking to promote their art through exhibitions and strengthen art production in Cambodia.
Linda Saphan launches this association through a first curated exhibition “Men Thoamada” at Gasolina. The support also includes training sessions (such as learning to make a portfolio, international standard of presenting a work of art) for all the artists.
Workshops
October 29th
Anoli Perera from Theertha International Artists Collective in Sri Lanka is visiting Selapak Neari art space under the ANA program. She joined in the Stiev Selapak meeting and observe the graffiti workshop. It is so positive for the Khmer artists to meet Anoli who shared with us the difficulties encountered in Sri Lanka which are the same here in Cambodia. The Stiev Selapak also will take her around town on an art tour.
October 24th
Stiev Selapak met in preparation for their first group exhibition. Théo Vallier helped in the design of their logo and their exhibition’s invitation. There is a good sense of art community and exchanges.
Sunday 23rd September
The Stiev Selapak have met and elected their president, curator, communication and secretary. There will be an election every year. They have also written their mission statement and internal rules and regulation for the founders, the members and affiliated. It is always with great humour and enthusiasm that they exchange.

This group of works is a result of my feelings of excitement and apprehension about the current growth of building in Phnom Penh, which seems alive and endless. The images vibrate and continue to grow like the urban environment.

I see many sick people around me. Many children are born handicapped. We see trash, plastic bags and other chemical products in our water. The food that we consume is often affected by these chemicals. I am concerned how our environment affects us and how se affect it.

I am fascinated by spiders for their diligence despite their small size. When their webs are damaged, they always fix them because lives depends on it. Their webs are their homes and their protection. If there is no web, the spider may be killed by other animals or they will face hunger.
